Ran Wang is a Montreal-based guzheng artist, composer, and interdisciplinary musician, blending traditional Chinese music with contemporary influences. With a background in music performance and technology, she explores improvisation, fusion, and cross-genre collaborations, bringing the rich heritage of the guzheng into new musical landscapes.
Originally from Chengdu, China, Ran Wang studied guzheng performance at Sichuan Conservatory of Music before furthering her exploration of music and technology at Universitรฉ de Montrรฉal. Her performances span diverse settings, from classical concert halls to interdisciplinary projects integrating sound design, interactive visuals, and innovative music technology.
Ran Wang has performed at major venues and festivals, including Place des Arts, ICAOโs Chinese New Year Festival, and Les Grands Ballets. She is an active collaborator in the Montreal music scene, having worked with McGill Universityโs Composition Department and interdisciplinary artists on projects such as Sonic Visions, Echo Tissage, and Symphony in Pixels, where she merges traditional performance with cutting-edge digital experiences.
In addition to her live performances, Ran Wang is committed to expanding the artistic reach of the guzheng through contemporary compositions, recording projects, and innovative digital platforms. She is currently preparing for further studies in Contemporary Musical Arts and Music Technology, aiming to deepen her expertise and broaden her creative collaborations. While based in Montreal, she continues to perform internationally and seeks to bridge cultures through music, storytelling, and technology.
